Does anything bug you about using Readlang? Add or vote on suggestions to improve it!

NOTE: Readlang is run by just one person, me, Steve. Even entire software development teams can't implement all the great ideas that they come up with, and this is doubly true in my case since I'm just a single person. So although I read all the ideas posted here, I can't possibly implement most of them. The feedback definitely helps inform my product decisions though, so please keep posting!

  3. Allow add the option to (un)star while in Flashcard mode

    Hey Steve!

Would love it if we could (un)star words while in Flashcard mode.

    Readlang rocks!

    All the best,

  4. add a group field for the flashcards

When I want to study the flashcards, they are grouped according to the website or article from which I added the words. It would be great if I could create my own groups, so that I could choose the flashcards I wanted to study, for example if I am reading an article or book that is not online. As it stands, I have only the choices mentioned or all of the words I have added.

  5. Make tracking text while watching a video by sentences, not by words.

It will be much more convenient.
One of the problems of tracking by words is that I have to put a lot of efforts for making good synchronising.

  8. Text tracking while watching YouTube videos

Make text tracking while watching video optionally. Add an option for this.
It's sometimes very inconvenient because of bad synchronisation, and it takes a lot of time to sync it right.
Also, the problem is that many public videos are badly synchronised. And nobody can fix this because the only author has the ability to sync.

  9. offer an export field that uses Anki's cloze syntax in reverse

    Hi Steve,

can you also add an third export fields using the Anki cloze format like

Context (Anki cloze with reverse translation):
    {{c1::translation::original word}}

for reverse learning because Anki cannot switch front and back for cloze cards.

    Many thanks in advance.

  11. toggle flash card creation or ask for confirmation before making one

I've just discovered ReadLang a few days ago and love it. Beautiful job.

I do find the automatic flash card creation feature very useful, but sometimes I want to turn it off to just practice reading and keep my word list tidy. I'm new to reading Spanish and tend to highlight a lot (for the translations). Most of what I highlight I don't want saved in my word list. Alternatively, I'd probably be happier if it asked me to confirm each time it wanted to create a flash card.

Anyway, based on your last blog post I guess you're done…

  12. Have audio for text

It will be useful to have audio playover option for certain texts in which audio is available. It can help with retention of new words.

  14. A list of webpages i have read using the web reader in my library

Could there be a list of webpages i have read using the web reader in my library? I'd maybe like to go back to some of them and that would make it a bit easier.
    Thanks.

  16. Having alternatives hidden in context.

It would be nice to have alternatives to a word hidden in the context.
Sometimes, I have a form of an adjective, e.g. "periculosus" (Latin) and in the context I use the form "periculosa", which I already added to the alternatives, but it isn't hidden.

Of course I could just make a new card for every form, but then I would have 10 - 20 cards for every word.

It would be nice if you add that.

    Thanks.

  17. Latin out of beta?

I love ReadLang and have been using it to sharpen my own Spanish reading skills. I teach Latin to middle schoolers, and would love to have them use use ReadLang as a tool to read harder Latin texts. Any chance it will emerge from beta soon? Thanks! Rick Beyer

The reason it is still in beta is that I don’t have a good word frequency list of Latin words. This is used to prioritize learning with flashcards and to attempt to judge the difficult of each text.

It still might be useful to try using Readlang to read Latin yourself and if you think it’s helpful to recommend it to your students as it is.

  18. Feedback / or / idea for feature

    Hello,
When I click on a text as "read", I like to have options, such as "archive", "hide"... etc.
    Thanks!!!

  19. Show image hint in the pop-up for an auto-highlight word while in read mode.

When the user clicks on an auto-highlighted word in read mode, it would be great if the pop-up showed the image hint (by the way, it is so awesome that GIFs work) that has been set up.

It may be incredibly useful to have in lieu of a translation in monolingual mode.
