Does anything bug you about using Readlang? Add or vote on suggestions to improve it!

NOTE: Readlang is run by just one person, me, Steve. Even entire software development teams can't implement all the great ideas that they come up with, and this is doubly true in my case since I'm just a single person. So although I read all the ideas posted here, I can't possibly implement most of them. The feedback definitely helps inform my product decisions though, so please keep posting!

  1. follow authors and users...

link to goodreads account, make an ios app and send notifications and reccomend daily readings. Share data with duolingo to add to the list of unique words you know in your target language. Allow users to report inappropriate content (i.e there are several duplicate texts, and texts that are written in hindi, thai, portugese, spanish, and dutch in the french section.) it would also be good to hide texts you don't want to see as well as the idea of removing texts from the public library section once shelved or completed

  3. Really Awesome app! Make improvements

Make the app look a bit nicer and easier to change languages. Don't show previously read content in the published section. Recommend a text a day. Create an app and perhaps reach out to have it put on kindle if that possible. Share data with duolingo so the programs work together to inform the lessons and or recommended content. Also to work better with tinycars. You might want to consider making it a feature of Duolingo Plus service. I also have plenty more where this has come from if you are interested just email me

  7. Make it so that images can be associated with books and articles.

And show those images while doing the flashcards. If the image is the cover of a book, it would more quickly let us gather the context of the sentence.

  8. Limit phrase translations per hour (not per day)

I think, the best would be 1 phrase per hour in the free version.

But, overall, this tool is really effective and the translations are accurate as well! Thank you guys

  10. Allows user to export current intervals.

It would be great if users could export the current interval for their words. This way, the words can be moved to another system without losing their learning progress.

In addition, it would be great to include any other learning data that Readlang, such as difficulty. However, since we can't see any of these fields, I don't know what other fields there are related to the spaced repetition algorithm.

  11. Track estimated known words

Could you add a dashboard and stats that include your estimated vocabulary size. You could do this by by unique word count per page minus lookups that haven't been passed in SRS (like lingq.com does it).

  12. Words' Categories

    Hi,
I think that Readlang is the best app I have ever bumped in.
My world list is becoming longer as the time passes so it would be very useful to give the chance of creating categories so to study it more specifically.
Moreover I didn't succeed in installing Reading in my tablet...the info's given seem to be unuseful.
    Bye and thank you

  13. Support bilingual texts for word count and CEFR level

Human translations are still more accurate than Google Translate. So I like to upload texts like https://readlang.com/library/5bbb6a4c143b89000758ad5d/from/548 , with the original text plus the human translated version.

Clearly this throws off the word count and readability index.

Could you please support some sort of markup that we can use in uploaded text files, that will ignore the specified portions of the texts?

  14. Make it compatible with Aljazeera.net

    Hi,
It seems absurd that your plugin isn't compatible with the most important Arabic newspaper online, Aljazeera. I bought a subscription to Readlang to learn Arabic exclusively, and I cannot use it with Aljazeera? Now I am forced to read BBC.com/arabic which isn't nearly as great.

  17. Import Word List between different account.

I really appreciate if you can develop this feature.

Account 1 -> Export words list as .csv format

Account 2 -> Import Account 1 word list into his account.

  19. Open Source Readlang

Now that you are working for Duolingo (congrats by the way!) and have declared Readlang has been declared "feature complete", have you considered open sourcing Readlang? I understand that you don't have the time to devote to new features, but I'm sure there are developers out there in your user base (like me) who would be more than happy to contribute to the project (even if you get the money for operating the service). There's so many good feature requests on here that I'd love to see implemented, and I think open sourcing and embracing community contributions would be a…

  20. Context flashcar

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could implement a feature where during active recall the English word stays hidden, much like during passive recall. I would like to have the option to remember the target word through context. Perhaps as a premium feature?

    Thanks,
    Denzel
