One way to to accomplish this is to always include the article (e.g. in English a, an, the) along with the word. The idea of Readlang is to always learn words or phrases as they appear in a given context.
I do agree that it would be nice to show the gender information without needing to include other words. Just offering a alternative solution that may help.

The article may not be present when you see the word. Another feature that would save a lot of time would be to automatically look up the plural form for German as this is often irregular and must be learnt along with the word.
Even for paid members, selecting a 12 word phrase won't always allow the user to translate a separable verb as there can often be very long strings of words between the two parts. It would be better if phrases could be manually multi-selected. In fact, is there a way to turn off the automatic connection of two adjacent words into a phrase? I'd rather have to deliberately create phrases. Would also cut down on unnecessary Translate API traffic.
