add keyboard shortcuts to the flashcard review page
- just use right arrow key for show answer/next card
- use up/down arrow keys to change current 'familiarity' rating.
- display the current rating level of word for users to see
Hi Oliver,
It’s not obvious I know, but there are already keyboard shortcuts for the flashcards page:
Enter – Reveal answer & next card
1 – Not at all
2 – Almost
3 – Yes, just
4 – Perfectly
I really should communicate this to users as they are learning to use the site.
I’ll have a think about adding some visual indication of your progress on each word to the flashcards. I need to think about how to do it in a way that is clear and not confusing.
I’ve been considering replacing the current four possible responses with a more simple “Yes” / “No” or “Remembered” / “Didn’t Remember”. It probably won’t affect the behaviour of algorithm that much and will be less for the student to think about.

I was going to add this as a suggestion, so maybe still not obvious enough!

Hi Steve,
I did see the 1/2/3/4 shortcuts but not the 'enter' key. To me at least it would feel most comfortable using arrow keys (or spacebar and m/n keys), at the bottom of the keyboard.
It seems like at the moment you have to rate a card each time, but it'd be good for flow to have the option to just leave the card at its current status and move to the next card.
One way to show rating levels is with different colored stars (e.g. red/orange/yellow/green, as I use in my game).
Cheers
Oliver
btw I gave a presentation including readlang at a little teaching workshop today here in Osaka, perhaps there will be some other adopters.
