I really like this idea. In fact I’ve been thinking about something similar for a while.
When a text is far beyond your reading level a side by side option would be ideal. And when you aren’t struggling so much, it’s probably better to show the translation only for sentences or paragraphs as needed, like you suggest.
No promises on this at the moment though I’m afraid, I have a lot of other work to do first.
Easier, but still reasonable solution would be a featre to remember words that I want to check the meaning of and create flashcards later (when in internet connection)...
maybe it would be possible to "read/play/download" from google drive?
You can buy/find/download an audiobook of most bestsellers theese days, can't you?
Than you can transform it into one-pictore video and upload to youtube (non-public).
And than upload an ebook and sync it with your "video-audiobook" from youtube.
It requires some work, but DAMN IT'S BEST LANGUAGE LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN HISTORY!
