mouse button
Dear steve,
when in typing mode and you have finished the word is it not an idea to have a mouse button so you can click on as well as the function of pressing the enter key.1 voteI’ve now added a “Check Answer” button in the bottom left corner which appears after you start typing.
Thanks for the suggestion, this button was long overdue!

change keyboard shortcut "alt+e" into something less troublesome
In my language (Polish) alt+e stands for quite an important letter - "ę" (and I guess that for French and Italian it could be something similar). While translating the text I keep "ę" in the clipboard, but it isn't too handy. When I write a translation of a full phrase and (by mistake) put an "ę" at the end - by pushing alt+e - l lose everything I wrote.
1 voteSorry about that, sounds quite annoying! It’s now fixed so that Alt+E doesn’t toggle the sidebar.

Allow an option to let additional contexts for the same word be testable flash cards.
If I understand the system correctly, additional contexts for a single word are added to a list of "additional contexts" in that word's entry my readlang database, but those additional contexts do not show up as flash cards. But isn't that how we master a word -- by hearing and or reading it multiple contexts? I suggest we find a way to make additional contexts for the same word be testable flash cards. Many thanks for an amazing tool!

Only 'final' version of highlighted words be saved to wordlist
While reading a section, I often highlight a word and then adjacent words to get the appropriate contextual meaning. Afterwards I have to go to wordlist and remove the inappropriate translations (often 50% of wordlist). Is it possible that only the 'final' highlighted words in a section be imported to wordlist?

Allow disabling phrase translation
I've already payed for unlimited phrase translation, but sometimes I want words translated individually - it would be nice if I could only translate phrases when I select multiple words at once rather than translating phrases when I separately click two adjacent words
8 votesThere is now an option you can set to make Readlang behave like this.
From the reader sidebar, set Translation Behavior to “Don’t Merge”
Or from the Web Reader Menu, set Merge Phrases to “Don’t Merge”
You can still drag across multiple words to translate phrases. See screenshots here: http://readlang.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/708147
Hope that’s helpful!

send reminder emails in the language last studied
I have selected two languages for learning. All my reminder emails always focus on the lanugage I am less serious about. I have had hundreds of entries in Russian and only a few in Dutch. Yet my reminder emails are coming in Dutch, repeating the same few words over and over again. It would be much more helpful if the emails would come in Russian and remind me of expressions and words I recently studied in Russian.
1 voteYou can disable and enable reminders for each language separately, here’s how to disable your Dutch emails and enable Russian ones:
1. Go to the preferences page: http://readlang.com/preferences
2. Select Dutch at the top of the page where it says “I’m learning …”
3. Uncheck the option to send Dutch reminder emails.
4. Select Russian at the top of the page where it says “I’m learning …”
5. Click the checkbox to send Russian reminder emails.
I hope this helps you, please let me know if you still have problems.

Drag and drop in place of paste or choose file.
I was just looking at the page "add text" and imagining how nice it would be if we could just drag and drop any file from our computer into the box, then click upload plain text. It is a time saving feature for those who have to copy, cut and paste large material. Thanks for all you do.
1 voteIt’s already possible to do this by dragging files onto the “Choose File” button on the upload page. I know this isn’t obvious but now that you know hopefully it will save you some time!
PS: I’ve tested this using Chrome on Mac OSX. If it doesn’t work on your particular setup please let me know.

have a choice to translate one way
There is an check box you can click to turn of the "Spelling translation" feature. It would be nice if there were settings that we could adjust. For instance, to translate in only one way. .In some cases it would be quicker and more beneficial to be able to practice translation only from our target language to our control language.
7 votesThis is now done!
To enable one way translation, enable “Passive Mode” from the Settings page (http://readlang.com/settings)
Enjoy, and please let me know if you encounter any problems.

What about safari on iMac desktop?
I can't see any reference to installing readlang on a desktop iMac (as opposed to an iPad). I'd really like to use readlang. Apologies if the answer is obvious and I'm being dense!
1 voteSorry for the delay, I’m catching up on emails and queries at the moment. You don’t need to install it on your iMac, just use it directly from Safari. These videos may help get you started: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIGa-eWCssj9K_PpNGLnIs8vcENanVx3_
If you need any more help don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Readlang emails need an "unsubscribe" button.
Hello Steve,
I'm actually yet to really make use of deadlang, but i'm sure it's a great tool. My problem, however, is that I have received several reminder-type emails over the past few days since registering; I don't recall any tick-box option to turn these off during registration (which I wohld have turned off, had I noticed), there is no "unsubscribe" link in the emails themselves and I can't find a way to turn off all alerts in the preferences menu.
I'm sure readlang is great, i'm sure you're a cool guy, but finding something I don't want in my…
1 voteI’ve just added unsubscribe links to all of these emails.
Note: I’ve had “reply to unsubscribe” at the end of these emails for ages, but now with a link it’s even quicker to unsubscribe.

Translate into same language with dictionary popup
Imagine kids can expand their native language vocabulary quickly by using your vocabulary service, that would be wonderful.
Another reason, my native language is Chinese. The huge disparity of Latin and Asian language root always sucks in cross translation, and often the multiple meaning and usage of same words is drastically different in both culture, we almost need to double check in English to English dictionary. English to Chinese translation only help us build up basic vocabulary only. People in same situation will also benefit in English to English translation.
Readlang is by far the best service I found, better…

Could you add an option for adding an image to flash card
The word with image with the meaning of that word is better to memorize.
3 votesThis is already possible. Please see instructions here: https://readlang.uservoice.com/forums/192149-general/suggestions/4341299-add-pictures-to-words-from-google-pictures-to-word
I know it’s the most user friendly method but I hope it works OK for you. Let me know if you have any problems.

Add option to manually add new flashcards
Justs a simple "add" button to let us create our own flashcards by typing in a front and back
1 voteDid you realise that you can add a flashcard from the http://readlang.com/words page by typing it into the search box and clicking search? If no results are found from your personal word list it will present a button (or two) offering to add the word to your list.
I realise this isn’t obvious at the moment, I’ll work on communicating this more clearly!

Add option to change text alignment from "justified" to "left"
It would be a nice option (not essential, but maybe in the future)
1 voteI’ve added this option now, check the “AA” formatting options in the reader sidebar.

The book should be opened at the page it was when we last closed it
It seems that a book is opened at the farthest page that has been seen, but it seems more natural to open it at the page it was when we last closed it.
Right now, I have a book read at 3% but I only actually read around 1% (I guess I just passed some pages to see what was coming and got around the 3% mark).
That makes it really annoying to start reading that book, as every time I open it I go directly to the 3% mark and I have to manually turn pages back until the…
3 votesThanks, now fixed! I’ve been thinking about this for a while and your feedback finally motivated me to get it done.

normalize Unicode in typed answers
Unicode's a great standard, but doesn't resolve all problems. Some diacritics have various representations, which messes up comparisons. E.g., the two strings below are different:
অলৌকিক কাজ
অলৌকিক কাজOne starts "অ ল ে ৗ"; (ending in ৌ) the other starts "অ ল ৌ" (ending in ৌ), the latter being a "composed" form of the former.
The answer is apparently to use Unicode normalized forms, as documented (at least for a start) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_equivalence. Of course, http://rishida.net/tools/conversion/ is great for peering into Unicode streams.
3 votesI’ve implemented a fix, but it will only work if you are using the latest Chrome or Firefox, either:
Chrome – version 34 (desktop or android)
Firefox – version 31 (desktop only)(The fix uses this recent addition to Javascript: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/normalize )
Hope this works for you. Please let me know if you find any more problems!
