Readlang emails need an "unsubscribe" button.
Hello Steve,
I'm actually yet to really make use of deadlang, but i'm sure it's a great tool. My problem, however, is that I have received several reminder-type emails over the past few days since registering; I don't recall any tick-box option to turn these off during registration (which I wohld have turned off, had I noticed), there is no "unsubscribe" link in the emails themselves and I can't find a way to turn off all alerts in the preferences menu.
I'm sure readlang is great, i'm sure you're a cool guy, but finding something I don't want in my…
1 voteI’ve just added unsubscribe links to all of these emails.
Note: I’ve had “reply to unsubscribe” at the end of these emails for ages, but now with a link it’s even quicker to unsubscribe.

Translate into same language with dictionary popup
Imagine kids can expand their native language vocabulary quickly by using your vocabulary service, that would be wonderful.
Another reason, my native language is Chinese. The huge disparity of Latin and Asian language root always sucks in cross translation, and often the multiple meaning and usage of same words is drastically different in both culture, we almost need to double check in English to English dictionary. English to Chinese translation only help us build up basic vocabulary only. People in same situation will also benefit in English to English translation.
Readlang is by far the best service I found, better…

Could you add an option for adding an image to flash card
The word with image with the meaning of that word is better to memorize.
3 votesThis is already possible. Please see instructions here: https://readlang.uservoice.com/forums/192149-general/suggestions/4341299-add-pictures-to-words-from-google-pictures-to-word
I know it’s the most user friendly method but I hope it works OK for you. Let me know if you have any problems.

Add option to manually add new flashcards
Justs a simple "add" button to let us create our own flashcards by typing in a front and back
1 voteDid you realise that you can add a flashcard from the http://readlang.com/words page by typing it into the search box and clicking search? If no results are found from your personal word list it will present a button (or two) offering to add the word to your list.
I realise this isn’t obvious at the moment, I’ll work on communicating this more clearly!

Add option to change text alignment from "justified" to "left"
It would be a nice option (not essential, but maybe in the future)
1 voteI’ve added this option now, check the “AA” formatting options in the reader sidebar.

The book should be opened at the page it was when we last closed it
It seems that a book is opened at the farthest page that has been seen, but it seems more natural to open it at the page it was when we last closed it.
Right now, I have a book read at 3% but I only actually read around 1% (I guess I just passed some pages to see what was coming and got around the 3% mark).
That makes it really annoying to start reading that book, as every time I open it I go directly to the 3% mark and I have to manually turn pages back until the…
3 votesThanks, now fixed! I’ve been thinking about this for a while and your feedback finally motivated me to get it done.

normalize Unicode in typed answers
Unicode's a great standard, but doesn't resolve all problems. Some diacritics have various representations, which messes up comparisons. E.g., the two strings below are different:
অলৌকিক কাজ
অলৌকিক কাজOne starts "অ ল ে ৗ"; (ending in ৌ) the other starts "অ ল ৌ" (ending in ৌ), the latter being a "composed" form of the former.
The answer is apparently to use Unicode normalized forms, as documented (at least for a start) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_equivalence. Of course, http://rishida.net/tools/conversion/ is great for peering into Unicode streams.
3 votesI’ve implemented a fix, but it will only work if you are using the latest Chrome or Firefox, either:
Chrome – version 34 (desktop or android)
Firefox – version 31 (desktop only)(The fix uses this recent addition to Javascript: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/normalize )
Hope this works for you. Please let me know if you find any more problems!

Maintain the selected tab in Library
When changing from 'Library' to 'Learn' and back, the selected tab in 'Library' is always set to 'Public', which can be both misleading and annoying.
I added my first book, went to 'Learn' and back to 'Library' and I was surprised because I didn't find my book (you still see the 'Add New Book' button and the 'Click the "Add New Book" button to get started.' message). I thought something went wrong and re-added the same book again and then I was redirected to 'Bookshelf' tab and saw that I had two books.
That would be more clear just maintaining…

add keyboard shortcuts to the flashcard review page
- just use right arrow key for show answer/next card
- use up/down arrow keys to change current 'familiarity' rating.
- display the current rating level of word for users to see
1 voteHi Oliver,
It’s not obvious I know, but there are already keyboard shortcuts for the flashcards page:
Enter – Reveal answer & next card
1 – Not at all
2 – Almost
3 – Yes, just
4 – PerfectlyI really should communicate this to users as they are learning to use the site.
I’ll have a think about adding some visual indication of your progress on each word to the flashcards. I need to think about how to do it in a way that is clear and not confusing.
I’ve been considering replacing the current four possible responses with a more simple “Yes” / “No” or “Remembered” / “Didn’t Remember”. It probably won’t affect the behaviour of algorithm that much and will be less for the student to think about.

sort by level
I think it will be useful to be able to sort by level. Be able to pull all the A1 level resources or A2, or B1. That will make it easier to find material that is right for the level of a certain student
1 voteThere’s now a slider to filter by difficulty level on the public library. This should become more useful as the library continues to grow.

words at the end of one line and he beginning of the next merge in phrase translation.

Please give it a try and let me know if you have any more suggestions.

Archive is not deleting
Dear Steve, please note that you Archive the deleted words and you call it delete, but you do not really delete them.
1 voteNow you can permanently delete:
1. Select the “Deleted” group
2. Select some or all words
3. Click Action → Permanently DeleteHope this is useful for you. If you have other suggestions please let me know.

Search the Public Bookshelf by difficulty level.
It would be nice if I could filter or at least sort the pubic bookshelf by difficulty level (i.e., the CEFR designations). I would get a lot out of being able to easily see what other people have found out there that is at my level.

group words to learn by text of origin
suppose you want to read a book to learn a new language, as you translate unkownn words they are added to your word list, and when you study they will come up following the SRS principles; however, other words from other texts will also come up. This is inconvenient if all you want to do is being able to understand a particular book.
Hopeful this is not too bothersome, otherwise this is a great website.1 voteThis feature is now available, see screenshot (with stupid book – names!) on this webpage:

offer an export field that uses Anki's cloze syntax
The Text field of Anki's built-in cloze note type uses a format quite similar to "Context (with original word)", but with {{c1:...}} instead of [[...]] around the original words.
Currently I fix my exported word lists manually in Notepad each time, but if it's a not too high effort, if would be great to get the correct format directly from Readlang.
More info: http://ankisrs.net/docs/manual.html#cloze-deletion
11 votesI’ve added 2 export fields using the Anki cloze format:
Context (Anki cloze):
{{c1::original word}}Context (Anki cloze with translation):
{{c1::original word::translation}}TIP: If you only export one field, be careful to ensure that Anki doesn’t use “:” as a field delimiter when importing.
Please let me know if this works well for you or not.
