Does anything bug you about using Readlang? Add or vote on suggestions to improve it!

NOTE: Readlang is run by just one person, me, Steve. Even entire software development teams can't implement all the great ideas that they come up with, and this is doubly true in my case since I'm just a single person. So although I read all the ideas posted here, I can't possibly implement most of them. The feedback definitely helps inform my product decisions though, so please keep posting!

  1. option to change language for a flashcard

I sometimes forget to change the language I am reading in when using the extension. Google doesn't tell me that the site is in English and not in German and translates everything as it can, seeing no difference. I end up with word translated from English to my native language in the German deck. Then I usually go to the same site, change language to English and click all the words I want to learn. But sometimes, you see, this site doesn't want me anymore without a special subscription. I would like to be able to edit these flashcards' language…

  3. technical glitch with web extension

when using the web extension, if i try to choose a phrase, the extension, in trying to tell me to sign up for the paid version, goes mostly off screen and has to be reset by clicking on the corner with the readlang logo. it is impossible to actually see most of the information that comes up. this is on windows 10

  4. Add the example sentence from Folkets lexicon by default

I'm learning Swedish and using Readlang a lot as a tool to translate words, kieep track of the words I looked up, and to teach me the words using flashcards. It's an awesome program and I'm glad it exists. I'm a happy subscriber. One useful extra feature would be this. Readlang uses Folkets Lexikon for Swedish which is very good. Readlang could fill in the example sentence field for added words automatically from the same field in Folkets Lexikon by default. I'm finding there usually is an example sentence there and I'm just cutting and pasting it in each time.…

  6. support upload of Youtube SRT files

that shouldn't be a big fix and would make the video-syn function much smoother, and in general the readlang product much more attractive!

  11. Support for PDFs on Goethe Institute and Other Access Controlled PDF Readers

Goethe Institute, Hoopla, and other free access libraries have a ton of content for language learners. But the browser extension doesn't work in these PDF readers.

I would love to see the browser extension offer support for these kinds of PDFs.

  12. Support images

    Hi,
Some books have images/photos stored in .epub file. But for the moment, it's not supported by ReadLang. When I upload my .epub file, photos are gone.
I hope you can implement this. Thank you!

  13. Require typing the correct phrase when incorrect

For the option of typing in a phrase or word, when we get it wrong it just moves on to the next card. I feel like requiring/allowing the user to type in the correct answer even if the answer is visible allows for some internalization and output. As it is now, the input field becomes inactive.

For me personally it helps to type the correct answer in the address bar a few times to output it a few times myself, so think it'd be nice to have as part of the user flow.

  15. Third-party apps to view the clipboard history on Android

However, you can see the clipboard history on Android by default. But if you can not see that due to any reason then you can use some third-party apps to view the history. Gboard is one of them. It is a very famous app where you can see your clipboard history. Firstly, you need to install the Gboard app and set it as your default keyboard. Now, type anywhere with that keyboard. Then click on the clipboard icon that is shown above the letters. Then click on “Turn on Clipboard” Now, copy the text that you want to save to…

  16. Save words as their lexeme, rather than their conjugated form.

I find that when I am learning vocabulary, I need to learn the word in it's unconjugated form first, then learn to apply the grammar rules later. It would be nice if there was a toggle feature than allows you to save the word as its lexeme, or if it could be automatically included as part of the word list.

    For example (in French):
    Français: Fais
    Lexeme: Faire
    Context: Je fais un gâteau.

  17. Glossing Mode in web reader

Glossing mode (http://blog.readlang.com/2015/03/08/new-look-translations.html) is awesome. It would be great to bring such awesomeness to the web reader as well. Any plans in this direction?

  18. ReadLang on Google Translate page

If you set the Google Translate page to translate from your native language to your target language, enter a word or phrase, and then click on the ReadLang button, the target word or phrase works normally in ReadLang. But if you then change the input to GT, producing a new target language output, then the green line for ReadLang does not appear and Readlang does not work. If you refresh the page, ReadLang will then work with the new translated word or phrase.

The reason I like to use ReadLang in this way is to input words or expressions into…

As you’ve discovered, refreshing the page is the only way to get the Readlang clickable translations back after a page update at the moment. Fixing this would be quite complicated.

One alternative is to enter your words or phrases into the “Lookup” search box on the Words page (http://readlang.com) – this will show a translation which you can click to immediately add to your word list.

    Hope that helps.

  19. Purpose of Alert?

Every time that I am reading an uploaded text in Readlang Library, I get the following alert partway through the text:

    Alert
To use the Readlang Web Reader:
    1. Drag this "Readlang Web Reader" link to your bookmarks bar
    2. Browse to the page you want to read
    3. Click the "Readlang Web Reader" bookmark

I already have the Green R button in the taskbar of my browser which I click on whenever I want to use it on a web page.

I am using the Chromium browser on Ubuntu. I'd prefer not to see this alert. Is there some…

  20. Please add a dictionary form to the flashcards

For example I'm learning German. Nouns in German have one of three genders and to be able to use the word correctly, one has to know its gender. So when I'm learning words I need to learn their gender as well.
