"imports plain text versions of websites a la Instapaper"
Hi, I was reading your post on the making of Readlang (http://steveridout.com/2014/03/22/readlang-my-bootstrapped-language-learning-web-app.html) and I found that back in January 2013 you were working on the development of "imports plain text versions of websites a la Instapaper".
This is something I have long thought that Readlang should improve. Although the Web Reader allows to import an article into Readlang, it works nothing like instapaper (or pocket for that matter). Those apps have an article view that extracts only the title and main text of the article. It would be great for Readlang to import the article like that (perhaps…

Readlang now uses the Readability algorithm to create readable versions of webpages a la Instapaper.

Fix a bug where the bottom line sometimes gets pushed to next page
Sometimes when you click a word on the bottom row of a page to be translated, the extra height of the translation causes the row to be pushed onto a new page, or onto the next page.
It would be better if the line stayed on the page it was originally on.

This was working well on Chrome but intermittently failing on Firefox. It should work more reliably on Firefox now.

Type text flashcards only
As far as I can see, the flashcards currently combine both the original and target languages randomly (?). Because the type text flashcards are very effective, why not allow the user to choose type text only? (Or have I missed something?)
1 voteHere’s how it works (using the example of an English speaker learning French).
1 – easy mode:
The first time you see a flashcard it will show you the French version, and ask you to guess the English translation. Since it’s assumed you know English well, it seems pointless to type the English, and it’s faster just to click to see the answer.2 – hard mode:
After you’ve successfully remembered the meaning of the word, the next time it is shown, it will show you the English and ask you to guess or type (in typing mode) the French. If you “Almost” remember, the card will be shown again in hard mode. If you remember “Not at all” the card will fall back to easy mode the next time it is shown.Hope that makes sense!
Please let me know if you still think this behaviour should be changed.

If the translation is wrong, and I look in the dictionary, then I should be able to edit that.
I was reading Mon Oncle Jules by Guy de Maupassant and the word ''sous'' was one of the words I clicked on. I could not get rid of the definition that it means ''under''. In this story, it is the plural of ''sou'', which is a penny. How can I study that in my flashcard deck if it won't let me change the definintion
1 voteYou certainly can!
You can edit translations from three places in the app:
1. The reader page: Open the sidebar (the little button at the top right of the page), open the “Words” tab, and click on one of the words to see the editing controls.
2. The Word List page: http://readlang.com/words
3. The flashcard page: the first time you encounter a card, after clicking to reveal the answer, you should see a little pencil icon which will show the edit controls when clicked.
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more problems.

You can do this already!
Visit the Word List page (http://readlang.com/words), select the words you’d like to export (which can be all of them), and click Actions → Export. This will export a CSV text file which Excel can import.
Please let me know if you have any problems.

Move the 'delete card' button
The 'delete card' button is very near the 'next card' button (Samsung tab). This results in some of my cards being accidentally deleted.
2 votesGood call! Just moved the button down a bit – let me know if it’s still a problem.

Allow sharing a text you didn't initially mark as public
I have some texts I uploaded and didn't mark public - I wanted to share a few with some people who requested it (transcripts from tv shows) - but I can't find a way to do this other than by reuploading again. It would be nice if there was just a "share" button even on my private texts
1 voteYou certainly can!
1. Open the text to read
2. Open the sidebar by clicking the button at the top right of the page
3. Open the “Share” tab
4. Click the checkbox to share the textHope that helps.
(There should also be a share button next to each text while you are browsing your texts but I see that it’s not getting displayed – will look into this ASAP!)

make sounds in flashcard mode more automatic
I think it would be convenient to have a keyboard shortcut in the flashcard mode that would play the sound of the presented word. Or maybe there is one?
1 voteYou can now enable a speaking mode that will automatically play sounds when each flashcard is revealed, and also when each word is translated: https://readlang.uservoice.com/forums/192149-general/suggestions/5278491-autoplay-audio-in-flashcards-when-answering

www.nu.nl doesn't work with Readlang
One of my favorite Dutch language sites does not work with Readlang.
I get this pop-up message:
"The page at www.nu.nl says:
Sorry but there's a problem loading Readlang Web Reader on this website."I wonder if there are any suggestions? Thanks.
1 voteThanks for letting me know.
Some code on the page was interfering with the extension. I’ve updated the extension now to fix this.
Please let me know if you find any more problems!

Student word list...
....I thought I read somewhere that we could see the most frequent words in our students word lists. How do you do this?
1 voteHi Bill,
To see this, you need to:
1. Open the Admin panel for your class
2. Click the “Texts” tab
3. Click on the text you are interested inSome analytics for that text should now be displayed for you, including the top 20 words and phrases your students clicked on.
Hope this is helpful,

Can you possibly include Haitian Creole?
I would really appreciate it!
1 voteDone! Haitian Creole is now available on Readlang.
Look for “Kreyòl ayisyen” in the list of languages.
Currently there is no external dictionary set but if you know of a good online dictionary you can add it yourself: https://readlang.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/279539-adding-a-custom-dictionary
The other aspects that are currently missing are:
1. Word frequency lists to prioritize words by their usefulness in the flashcard section.
2. A public library of shared texts and websites.Aside from that, it should still prove useful, please give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Please add option to not have pop-up dialogue box when re-clicking on words
Hi Steve,
Thank you for adding these great features -- which I discovered are even available with beta languages like Danish!I like the mode where the translations appear over the word.
I would like to have the option for the translations to appear over any word or phrase I select.
I'd prefer NOT to have the large dialogue box pop-up every time I click on a word I've already saved.
It slows me down, especially while reading on my phone. The pop-up box provides more information than I want or need, plus I have to close it every time…1 vote -
multiple target languages
Any plans to support simultaneous learning of multiple languages?
1 voteYou can already switch between languages by using the “I’m learning…” dropdown at the top of the page.
Is this what you’re looking for or have I misunderstood?

audio
An audio icon should be great to have in the reader section.
4 votesAutomatic audio playback is now available for premium users, it doesn’t read the whole text however, just what you click on.
Once enabled, you will hear audio pronunciation every time:
- You translate a word or phrase
- The side of the flashcard in your target language is displayedIt works for the following 17 languages: Catalan, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish
Please let me know what you think of this and how it works.
Some notes:
1. It doesn’t work when using the Web Reader on iOS.
2. When enabled, you’ll see an audio icon at the top of the reader page and during a flashcard session allowing you to toggle “speaking mode” – this won’t appear at all if it wasn’t enabled first from the settings page (http://readlang.com/preferences)
3. On YouTube videos, audio pronunciation will…
