Does anything bug you about using Readlang? Add or vote on suggestions to improve it!

NOTE: Readlang is run by just one person, me, Steve. Even entire software development teams can't implement all the great ideas that they come up with, and this is doubly true in my case since I'm just a single person. So although I read all the ideas posted here, I can't possibly implement most of them. The feedback definitely helps inform my product decisions though, so please keep posting!

  1. Add the possibility to show only public library content with youtube video

    Add the possibility to filter the public content in order to only show content that has a youtube video. This would help those interested in improving the listening skills.

  2. Have an option to show all the superscript translations of highlighted words

    When I am reading a text I have uploaded, I wish there was an option to turn on the superscript translations of all the words I have chosen to have highlighted. So I can glance at the text for unfamiliar words and their definitions quickly, just like I would with hand-written notes in a book. Right now, if I'm understanding it correctly, I need to click on each highlighted word individually to see the definition. I think you have to pay google translate for your translations right? So maybe this could be a subscriber-only premium feature. Thanks, Todd

  3. find a better translation source

    First off, google is probably the worst translator you can find. For Thai, you can only choose a letter not a word - so ไ not ไก่...several words are translated incorrectly or not at all. This website is a great idea, but translations need to be on par. Maybe open it up to the community.

    Google Translate is actually pretty good from English to/from the main European languages. Sorry that it doesn’t work so well for Thai.

    Out of curiosity, do you know of a better machine translation system for Thai → English?

  4. Allow "I did not remember" on words in texts

    When displaying words in the texts, you can click on them and select "I remembered". This removes them from the list of words to study and bumps the review time to another date.
    I would suggest adding a "I did not remember" that decreases the review time to the most recent.

  5. The Hebrew dictionary you're using, Morfix, requires more width

    Morfix is excellent, but it requires more width, otherwise we've got an annoying horizontal scrollbar. For Hebrew, can you automatically open screens that use Morfix (like the flashcard editing screen) wider? Here's a short screen capture demonstrating the issue: http://screencast.com/t/MIN31f69x

  6. Need the "reading" of the words highlighted too for japanese.

    When I click on a word it only shows me the meaning, I can't see the reading of that word which is consisted with kanji easily. It would be so much easier and faster if we could see the reading along with meaning just by clicking on a word.

  8. Make tracking text while watching a video by sentences, not by words.

    It will be much more convenient.
    One of the problems of tracking by words is that I have to put a lot of efforts for making good synchronising.

  9. improve the app to work better with Google docs

    On Google docs, words do not highlight past the first page. This would be a helpful addition.

  10. Options to separate selected phrases

    Sometimes I don't understand a phrase but I want each word in the phrase to be a separate flash card. Could it be possible, if a phrase is selected, to cycle through the options of selecting the whole phrase, having each word as a separate selection and deselecting all, as currently when you select a word followed by another word and then tap again it switches to a single word selection again. Also a selection delay of say 3 seconds before saving a flashcard so it doesn't save duplicates because you have been trying to select a phrase?

  11. Please fix the problem in Chrome of loading the Edit Flashcard Window

    I know I can reload the page to allow "unsafe" scipts but it's annoying having to do this every time. I searched for a way to allow Readlang always to load these windows but it's looks like it has to be resolved on the website's end rather than the user's. It wasn't a problem when I first started using the site, so I'm not sure what changed, but it's definitely negatively effected my usage of the site. Thanks for reading.

    I wonder if this is due to the external dictionary on the edit word panel?

    Please let me know which language are you learning. And whether you have edited the default external dictionary.

  12. add hotkey for browsing vs registering word

    For example, Shift+Click for actually clicking through a link rather than registering the word clicked on.

  13. to offer the possibility to save the words with their English definition instead of translation

    I think its way more helpful to learn words by their English meaning than by their translation. I believe that would be much more helpful for most English learners.

  14. It would be nice that when editor tab is open, editor shows the same page as I am on the reading page.

    It would be nice that when editor tab is open, editor shows the same page as I am on the reading page. Currently, the text is static and it could be dificult to find in the editor where my cursor is on the reading page, especially in a long text

  15. Duplicate or split cards easily

    Make it possible to easily split cards with multiple contexts where the word means something different in each context, as contexts get added automatically to my cards when the word/phrase cannot be translated to exactly the same thing in English for each.

  18. Scroll to current location when editing text in sidebar

    I'd like to fix obvious mistakes in the translated book I'm reading, but opening the side bar to edit the text and then finding the spot I'm at in order to change it is not practical for a novel, particularly on a phone. Would be nice if it could auto-scroll down to match the top of your current page when you opened the text editor.

    PleASE, ADD KAZAKH I AM BEGGING YOU.
    Its really popular language right now, its have google translate support, a lot of copyright free books. I can give you a word, that in first days of adding Kazakh to Readlang, it will have richest library in whole site, thanks to me.
    and if you add it I am going to donate 10 dollars. Thats all pocket money that I got right now, and I am giving a word of honor, thats I am going to donate them all to Readlang when Kazakh is added

  20. add some more trainings to learn section

    Not only guessing word, but many different trainings such as word-translate, translate-word, audio-writing, crossword. Watch on this site http://lingualeo.ru/ It's russian but you can switch it to English. It really helps you to memorise new words, believe me.

    I’m working on an API to allow anyone to create training games. There’s an early alpha version here in case any developers want to try it out:

    I don’t plan to create games myself any time soon, since I want to concentrate on the other core features of Readlang, but I hope that other developers may be tempted to try.
